Hello there, and welcome to our new site – Game UI Patterns!

You may be wondering,…

“What is this thing?”

We had noticed that there were great resources out there for UI design patterns, but only really for web/mobile design, and not the games space. We’re incredibly passionate about the games industry and contributing to this community, so we saw this as the perfect opportunity to get involved.

Why use a design pattern?

“Design patterns” are general, reusable solutions to commonly occurring problems. We know it is tempting when you are starting out on a project to want to reinvent the wheel and put your own spin on things – however from experience, we also know that getting a solid base from tried and tested mechanism is a good place to start, and you can build on it from there. This site is designed to help give you inspiration for the components that you might need for your game. It isn’t meant to be strict instruction, but more a reference and starting point when designing your game.

Get involved

This also isn’t all about us and our ideas, we really want to hear from the community and for you to get involved. You can comment on any of the patterns on the site, and if there is a pattern you want to see – either let us know and we will get to work on adding it, or you can even contribute the pattern yourself and be featured on the site. If you are interested in contributing a pattern, you can find out all the information you need over on our contributions page.

There’ll be more patterns added over the next few weeks and months, so be sure to keep an eye on the site, or even sign up for our newsletter. We’re really excited to hear what you think of the site and looking forward to seeing you getting involved and being with us on this journey!

Catch you again soon,
The Game UI Patterns Team
